I had a too good to go order placed. The pick up time was at 8:30pm. I get there and the bakery is closed, even though the hours claim it closes at 9pm. I was then told the bakery is permanently closed…if it’s permanently closed, why was I able to place an order there? Makes no sense and I’ll never be back.

I thought I'd put a review in last year but I guess I didn't and I just remembered because my wife's birthday just passed and I was reminded of how bad the cake was from this place, the decorations on the outside were exactly what we wanted and what I asked for and they did a good job of that. I asked for a coconut inside for the cake with vanilla cake yeah I got that but what they did was they put dry coconut flakes into the cake in between the layers so when you ate it it was like eating just dry coconut flakes The entire time you could barely taste the cake, they could have at least made it a coconut with coconut cream that way it holds its shape but once you cut into it it just started pouring out coconut flakes and the cake barely held its shape because of it. So maybe they have a good selection of pastries that are decent but their cakes are just not good maybe they don't ask enough questions to figure out what is needed but I feel like maybe they have somebody that's not creative enough making the cakes. Experienced yes cuz the declarations are good but somebody that doesn't go that extra step to make it correct.

I’m really disappointed with this cake. The writing on it looks like it was done by a child, which is not what I expected at all. On top of that, the customer service was very unprofessional—I tried calling multiple times throughout the day to confirm it would be ready by 3 PM, but no one answered. Then had the audacity to try to charge me extra when I got to the location. I only went through with the purchase because it was the day of my boyfriend’s birthday, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience and a waste of $50. I’m extremely upset and would not recommend ordering from this location. I would also appreciate a refund!

I brought home a big haul of conchas and other types of sweet bread but they were all a bit stale. I know conchas, and these were not it. Not sure if they were just a bad batch but other reviews seem to agree that the quality is a bit lacking. There's also a separate restaurant on the bottom floor. Not sure if it's the same owner of the bakery though? Definitely an interesting set up. I can't quite put my finger to it but something about this place vibe was a bit off. I'm not sure if I'll be back again soon.

I've been coming to Pastigel for a couple of years now. It's nice to have a bakery right in downtown Elgin. We noticed that they opened up a Mexican/Columbian restaurant in the downstairs area, a change that I'm really happy with. The area is comfortable and has a relaxing vibe. The food is good and, like always, the staff are welcoming and pleasant. I'd love to see this little restaurant grow into something more!
